-TOP 3 REASONS WHY STUDENTS SHOULD STUDY ABROAD IN UNIVERSITY-
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to pursue your university education in France, Australia or Italy?
If you are a Montreal student considering to study abroad here is 3 REASONS WHY— IT COULD BE YOUR BEST DECISION.
In 2018, Professors are encouraging this option because it is a one in a lifetime opportunity. You are only a university student once— and if you are in your early 20’s, chances are you want to discover the world before you become tied down to your career or future family- If so, this is the way to go.
No one tells you it is going to be easy, but besides the lengthy paperwork, there should be a lot more pros then cons, if you are finding yourself to be torn about studying abroad.
-YOU BECOME INDEPENDENT-
YES, if you are 21—this is no surprise to you. You think you are independent— which may be right. However, this is different. You are in a different country or city, and you are adapting to their custom and way of life.
For some people, it is an eye-opening experience because you become open-minded with everything that
surrounds you, -(well, mostly everything). If you are
a foodie, your palette will adore you. If you are a
museum person, your brain and heart will never thank you enough, and lastly, if you are a fashionista—“WARNING’ -your wallet may cry but your fashion sense will not.
-YOU MEET DIFFERENT PEOPLE-
I KNOW, I know— you hear this often but its true. If you are moving into a dorm for your semester abroad, chances are you will become bffs with your roomie since they are going through the same experience. You guys will create your memories and go on adventures with different people, and no one else will be able to comprehend this bond.
– YOU GET FIRST-HAND INSIGHT ON WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE LIVING OUTSIDE OF MONTREAL-
YES, do not get me wrong, Montreal is beautiful, and it is home. But what is your home away from home?
If you are planning to go to Europe for six months or even a year- it is very different then if you are merely taking a
cruise across Europe.
You are living there until you get homesick— because yes, even though Europe is lovely and exciting, you will stay longer than you’ve ever anticipated when being on vacation and you will miss Montreal.
BUT THAT IS OKAY, in exchange, you get first-hand insight into what it would be like if you lived in Spain or Germany, for example.
You will study like them
You will shop like them
You will party like them AND,
YOU will talk like them
You will make it your home away from home- which will make you feel nostalgic once you settle back into your old room here, in Montreal. You will feel like a different person guaranteed.
One thing is for sure, you will not be the same 21-year-old or 24 year old that left Montreal in search for new experiences and growth— After this experience, you will become someone who will be more sure of themselves whether it is in school or life, you will become a mentor to others but most importantly you will become kinder to yourself as you grow outside of your comfort zone— something which you may never quite experience the same way in your life again. So pat yourself on the back for it—and enjoy the ride that is yet to come.
To all my classmates and friends pursuing their education in another country or city this next year, this one is for you!
